7 Foods You Should Never Refrigerate -- Find Out Why

Most everything goes into the frig when you get home from the grocery store. So it might sound strange to say that there are some foods that don't do well in the refrigerator. In fact, refrigerating these 7 foods can cause them to lose their flavor and spoil quickly.

#1 Bananas - putting bananas in the refrigerator will stop the ripening process, even if you put the bananas back out at room temperature. They are doomed once they are refrigerated.

#2 Apples - will lose both their flavor and texture after refrigerating. If you like eating cold apples, refrigerate them just 30 minutes before eating.

#3 Onions - refrigerating onions will make them soggy, and will make everything else in your refrigerator smell and taste like onions. Instead, store them in a paper bag in a cool, dark place.

#4 Sweet potatoes - will lose their flavor and texture when refrigerated. In addition, starches found in sweet potatoes will turn to sugar if you refrigerate them.

#5 Tomatoes - like sweet potatoes, tomatoes actually lose their flavor when refrigerated. Putting them in the frig will also make them mushy.

#6 Coffee - needs to be stored at room temperature to allow the natural oils of coffee beans to activate. Plus, coffee will absorb the odors from other foods in the refrigerator.

#7 Avocados - like bananas, refrigeration stops the avocado's ripening process. Avocados are best stored at room temperature.
