America is getting fatter. A study last year by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington showed that 2 billion people around the globe are either overweight or obese. Although the U.S. has 5 percent of the world's population, it has 13 percent of the world's fattest people.
Fat is fat -- anywhere
You don't have to live in a large city to be overweight; fat can happen anywhere. But WalletHub recently compiled a list of America’s fattest major cities to show where most of the obesity is. Most of the cities are located in the South.
Fattest Metro Areas
Memphis, TN
Shreveport, LA
Indianapolis, IN
Jackson, MS
New Orleans, LA
Chattanooga, TN
Mobile, AL
San Antonio, TX
Greenville, SC
Little Rock, AR
It's not just the fact that people in these cities are overweight. They also have high levels of obesity-driven health problems. For example, Mobile, Alabama, has the highest percentage of adults with high blood pressure. Memphis has not only the highest percent of obese adults but also the highest percent of adults who are physically inactive.
Do you see a pattern here??
