It just means you have to stop eating all food for the next 12 hours.

It's called "intermittent fasting" because you only do it at night. Your body burns fat all the time, but fasting for 12 hours while you sleep simply gives the body more time to eat fat. But this doesn't mean you can eat anything. A healthy, balanced diet is still important for maintaining proper weight.
