Forbes Magazine published an article a couple years ago that bears repeating...and repeating. There are right, and WRONG, ways to lose weight, and some people get so desperate to loose weight quickly that they put their very lives in danger.

Here are 5 of the most dangerous weight loss products, along with reasons why you should absolutely avoid them:

#1 - Japan Rapid Weight Loss Diet Pills: they come in pretty colors, but pretty is poison when it comes to this drug. These pills contain the chemical phenolphthalein and the weight loss drug sibutramine. Why are they dangerous? Phenolphthalein is on the FDA list of suspected carcinogens, and sibutramine can raise the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

#2 - Clen Fat Burner: guess what 'clen' stands for? Clenbuterol, which is a steroid used to treat respiratory illnesses in horses. The drug affects all muscle tissue throughout the body, including the heart muscle. It can damage the heart muscle. It’s illegal, and dangerous, to use it in human consumption.

#3 - The Brazilian Diet Pill: sold under the name of Emagrece Sim and Herbaslim, this pill is full of uppers and downers, like Librium, Prozac (antidepressant) and Fenproporex (a stimulant). This is a dangerous combination that cause extreme mood swings and personality changes.

#4 - Qnexa: contains a combination of antidepressant drugs used to quit smoking, and naltrexone, used for alcoholism and addiction to opiates. The concern with this pill is the increased risk of heart attack and heart valve damage.

#5 - The K-E Diet: this diet limits calorie intake to approximately 800 calories by inserting a tube through the nose to the stomach. But instead of food, the dieter uses a nutrient solution that goes directly to the stomach. Weight loss is rapid, but at a cost. In addition to the risk of inflammation and infection, the swift burning of fat puts a lot of stress on the kidneys and liver. This one is very dangerous.
