The answer is somewhere between "probably not" to just "no." What the American people have been promised are ambiguous statements, such as:
- it will work much better than it did in October
- we will still experience periods of suboptimal performance
- the website is far improved
- working smoothly for the vast majority of users
Will the deadline be extended?
Since fewer than 27,000 people in the states where the federal government is administering the program were actually able to sign up during October, this means Americans have lost a month to sign up for health insurance. So, the big question is, will the government push back on the deadline of March 31, 2014, the deadline for open enrollment? So far, there are no plans to change the deadline.
What to expect
What to expect from here on out is anyone's guess. Although a team of technology experts are working round-the-clock to improve the site, no one knows for sure how many people will be able to sign up for healthcare insurance between now and the March 31 deadline.
All we can do is wait and see.
