Stop Drinking Diet Soda -- It's Dangerous!

Many people think it's all right to drink diet soda because it has less sugar. While it's true that diet soda has less sugar which is good for obesity and other health problems, the artificial sweeteners added to diet sodas can be downright dangerous!

Why diet sodas are dangerous

A recent study published in the American Heart Association’s journal Stroke uncovered startling facts about what manufacturers put in diet sodas. According to the study, the artificial sweeteners increase the risk of stroke and dementia. Study participants who drank at least one artificially sweetened drink per day were nearly three times more likely to have a stroke or develop dementia compared to those who drank less than one a week.

Safe for consumption??

Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved these artificial sweeteners as safe for consumption, each individual needs to be aware of the risks. According to the Mayo Clinic, artificial sweeteners often contain refined and processed substances. These include chemicals such as Acesulfame potassium, Aspartame, Neotame, and others. They are synthetic (man-made) sugar substitutes. The bottom line is that diet drinks are not as healthy as many people think. The best alternative is to drink plain old water.
