The best way to treat a heart attack is not to have one in the first place. One in every four deaths in the U.S. are caused by heart disease. It is the leading cause of death for men and women with 610,000 people dying of heart disease every year. So, don't take any chances!

Here are 3 ways you can prevent a heart attack

#1 - Exercise and stay active - The best way to prevent a heart attack is to keep moving. The American Heart Association recommendations 150 minutes or more of moderate exercise each week. This doesn't mean you have to join a gym. Included in those 150 minutes can be walking or riding your bike to work, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and parking your car in the back of the parking lot so you have to walk more. All of these are forms of exercise that count.

#2 - Eat healthy - There is no way around it; you must eat healthy if you want to avoid a heart attack. This means avoiding the unhealthy fats found in processed foods and animal fat. Instead, eat plenty of healthy fats found in avocados, fish and other foods.

#3 - Maintain a healthy weight - This means maintaining a body mass index (BMI) of between 18.5 and 24.9. BMI is a measure of your weight relative to your height and is a measurement of total body fat. Too much body fat increases the risk of heart diseases and heart attack.
