Doing This For Your Children Will Improve Their Health in Just 10 Days
A recent study showed that one simple change in children's diet could greatly improve their health in just 10 days. It will also help prevent children from developing heart disease and high blood pressure. What is the change? Cut down on sugar.

What parents need to do

A new study financed by the National Institutes of Health showed that by reducing the consumption of sugar in children who are considered high risk for diabetes and related disorders, their health greatly improved in 10 days. The study involved 43 between the ages of 9 and 18 who had been getting about 27 percent of their daily calories from sugar, compared to the average of about 15 percent. All the children in the study had risk factors that included hypertension, high blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol and excess body fat around the waist.

Diet changes make a big difference

The scientists in the study replaced sugary foods in the children's diet with no-sugar-added foods. For example, they age bagels instead of sugar-sweetened yogurt, baked potato chips instead of pastries, and most of the sugar in their new diet came from fruit. The results were amazing. Their blood sugar and insulin levels dropped, bad cholesterol dropped 10 points, and triglycerides responsible for heart disease dropped 33 points.

The results demonstrated without a doubt that making small changes in diet can make a big change in overall health for children and prevent them from developing serious health conditions in their adult life. The results of the study were published in the journal Obesity.
