Want to Get Rid of Belly Fat? Avoid These 5 Foods -- They Are the Worst for Belly Fat!

Fat is fat, but belly fat is the worst, according to health experts. Why? According to Robert Eckel, MD, president of the American Heart Association, "A big waistline puts you at increased risk for many health problems -- diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke." So, if you want to reduce belly fat, avoid these 5 foods.

#1 Sugar substitutes - this may surprise some, but sugar substitutes contain sugar alcohols that can create belly bloat. Avoid anything labeled sugar-free or no-sugar-added.

#2 Diet soft drinks - again, since these drinks are lower in calories, it may surprise some to know they are linked to weight gain, diabetes, and belly fat. How can this be? They slow down metabolism which triggers the body to store more fat.

#3 Foods high in sodium - we all know that too much salt is no good, but many are not aware that too much sodium causes the body to retain excess water weight and belly bloat. Keep sodium down to less than 2,000 mg per day.

#4 Refined carbohydrates - this includes anything white, like white rice, white bread, pasta and white flour. Refined (processed) foods increase blood sugar and belly fat. Instead, switch to whole grains like brown rice and whole-wheat pasta.

#5 Alcohol - don't forget what alcohol can do to create belly fat. One way alcohol adds fat is by relaxing inhibitions while drinking which often causes people to eat food that can pack on the fat. The rule on this is one drink a day for women, two a day for men. Also, red wine is good because it contains properties that are heart-healthy and fight against aging.
